Booking an in-home newborn photography session is an exciting and memorable way to celebrate your new arrival. If you're considering this type of session, you likely have some questions. In this Journal entry I answer a few of the most commonly asked questions about Newborn Sessions. Once you book your session you will receive a comprehensive guide on how to prepare for your session.

When Should You Book Your Session?

I only book a small number of newborn sessions each month so I am able to give my all creatively to my clients so it is best to book as soon as you enter the 2nd trimester. Your due date is the date that is booked and secures your spot in my calendar. After your baby arrives, we'll touch base again to schedule your actual session date. Typically, newborn sessions happen within the first 7-14 days after your baby’s birth, capturing those precious early moments.

What If You're Worried Your Home Isn't 'Photo-Ready'?

It's completely understandable to feel concerned about how your home might look in photos. Remember, your home is your child's very first home—it's uniquely special just the way it is. The beauty of in-home lifestyle photography lies in capturing authentic, meaningful moments. There's no need for your home to look perfectly tidy or "Instagram-ready." Genuine interactions and real-life moments captured in your own space will always be beautiful and meaningful.

What Happens If Your Baby is Awake?

If your newborn decides they want to stay awake during our session, that's completely fine! Awake or asleep, every moment we capture will reflect your baby's personality and unique traits. My sessions are always baby-led, meaning we gently follow their cues. Sometimes the most memorable and touching moments are those spontaneous interactions when your little one is awake and exploring the world around them.

How Long Does a Session Usually Last?

In-home newborn sessions are relaxed, comfortable, and stress-free. Sessions typically last between 1.5 to 2 hours, which allows plenty of time for feeding, comforting, diaper changes, and cuddles. There's no rush; we move at your baby's pace to ensure the experience remains calm and enjoyable for everyone.

How Should You Prepare for the Session?

Good news—there’s no preparation needed on your part! I'll handle any necessary adjustments or furniture movements during the session itself to ensure we achieve beautiful lighting and a clean, appealing backdrop for your photographs. Your only task is to relax, be present, and enjoy this special experience with your newborn.
